This is How You Make Better UGC Content 🍄

Reading time: 2 min 10 sec

Hello Ad Space!

Hope you had a great weekend, it's time to bless your Monday with 3 new UGC ads

Let’s jump right in shall we?

birddogs

Wow… What a catchy hook from birddogs.

Both visually and text-wise, this hook checks all the boxes.

It grabs people’s attention more effectively than the typical, boring language often seen on social media.

The hook is also something we can all relate to.

When creating ads, it’s always about finding that relatable element.

Notice that it’s not always necessary to build up a long, drawn-out story about someone who struggled with X, Y, or Z but then found this amazing new thing…

Oftentimes, you don’t need to do that.

You’re much better off crafting a strong hook that explains the problem in the first 3 seconds and then introduces the product as the solution.

This ad nails that approach. It has been running for almost a year, and honestly, I don’t see it stopping anytime soon.

Motion

Next up is this Skit here from Motion.

Using the hook: “How I became my boss's favorite,” they tap into the universal desire to be in the boss's good graces.

Let's be honest—who wouldn’t want to be their boss's favorite?

It may not be something most people actively aspire to or think about often, but it’s certainly not something they’d oppose.

Oftentimes, skits are too long, which hurts the retention rate.

This one is short, funny, relatable, and precise, which will lead to much better retention.

I also love the little detail of him sliding the computer over to the employee, very smooth and fluid.

Reframe

Is this one of your first times seeing an ad like this?

I bet it is, and that's a very good thing indeed.

It means your ad blockers have yet to adapt to this sort of ad which means you are more likely to watch it through.

Nice one Reframe.

This ad speaks directly to people with drinking problems, and if you think about it, it makes perfect sense to choose this format over a typical UGC video.

If you’re struggling with alcoholism, you might feel ashamed to speak up about it and admit it, right?

This ad format addresses that exact issue!

You could have a creator talk about their alcohol problem in the video, but it might come across as a bit off, leading viewers to think:

“How can this person speak so comfortably about this problem?”

If a thought like that pops up in the viewer’s head, it could decrease the chances of the ad feeling genuine, and that might be a problem!

This format allows the creator to express themselves through text rather than putting their face on camera.

It’s a great solution for addressing an uncomfortable subject.

By extension, it also lets the viewer stay hidden behind their screen while absorbing the message, rather than feeling confronted by a creator making direct eye contact.

Takeaways from this week’s episode:

  • A strong, relatable hook that quickly addresses a problem and presents the product as the solution within the first few seconds can be more effective than a long, drawn-out story.

  • When making skits, make sure they are short, funny, relatable, and precise, which will make them more effective at retaining the viewer’s attention

  • When dealing with sensitive subjects, such as alcohol addiction, using a format that allows the creator to express themselves through text rather than on-camera narration can make the ad feel less confrontational.

That’s it! 👋
