Did someone say UGC? 🧃

Hello, my fellow ad lovers,

I hope you had a great week with some sun and good numbers in the ad account.

Things are going well over here, and it's about to get even better. ;)

Let's look at these ads.

Nolan Interior

Dogs are cute, I think most people can agree with me on that one.

These caring creatures hold a special place in our hearts and can do many things.

We have rescue dogs, police dogs, guide dogs for the blind, dogs in talent shows, and so on…

They can do a bunch of cool stuff, and they can certainly help boost those numbers in the ad account if you include them!

This video is very funny and smart. Instead of the voiceover coming from the owner, it’s from the dog.

The iconic Spongebob AI voiceover is supposed to be the dog’s voice, and we hear the dog talk about its needs, stuff it loves, how comfy the product is, etc.

Whether you’re running a small or big brand, making ads less serious and more fun works great.

We think of these types of ads as “guerilla marketing.”

The Essence Vault

The Essences Vault also makes some great UGC ads, I must say.

Starting with a sticky note hook is a good idea here, but I wish they had placed it on something more related to their message than a monitor.

By the way, we have seen huge success with “command hooks,” as we call them.

For example, you could use phrases like: “STOP buying” or “Throw out (old product).” This type of messaging gets people hooked because they want to avoid any form of pain.

People are usually running away from pain or towards pleasure.

Often, it's a combination of both. In this type of hook, we are leaning more into the pain side of things.

I also love the mixed style of UGC/commercial/AI/testimonial vibe they have going on here.

It’s a huge mix of diverse content that makes the ad stand out and almost makes it feel like a well-produced TV commercial.

We often preach that less is more, but sometimes going all in just works.

This ad from The Essence Vault does a really good job of combining a wide variety of visuals into a smooth ad that looks great.

Great job on this one!

Ekster

The last ad of this Monday is going to be this ad from Ekster.

As you can tell by now, there's an ongoing trend in 2024 of making fast-paced ads that get straight to the point.

People don't have the attention span or patience to watch a 45-second before/after story before revealing the solution.

While long stories can work sometimes, a fast-paced approach is often more effective.

Especially when it includes… Action.

Show the product, highlight its features and benefits, demonstrate how it solves problems, and provide social proof of how it has helped others.

It sounds simple, and it is… but execution is everything.

Ekster does a great job of executing this approach. Instead of just telling us their wallet is durable, they show it by driving a car over it.

Now that’s execution…

Takeaways from this week’s episode:

  • Make ads less serious and more fun. Try implementing a guerrilla marketing approach by creating the ad from a perspective other than your ICP.

  • High-production ads still work! But if you go all-in, you need to go all-in. Mashups are a great way of highlighting your products in a variety of different scenarios.

  • When making fast-paced ads designed to catch people in their zombie state, focus on action and execution.

That’s it! 👋

That’s all for this week’s Ad Space.

We’ll be back next Monday with more ads.

Until then…

See ya 👋
